- All EC members ("most European countries") have an equivalent tax, which
- according to EC rules *must be at least* 15 percent. The rationale behind this
- goes something like this: If you lower your VAT too much, your economy will
- grow and your country will become richer, which isn't fair to the other members.

- The member countries probably agreed to this rule because rich countries are
- again taxed higher *by* the EC. Sometimes I wonder whether all this means that
- most madmen are made by politicians or that most politicians are made from
- madmen...
